Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday night, officers from the New Canaan Police Department were dispatched to the Historical Society, where there was a report of a suspect wearing a hat and hoodie who had allegedly broken into the building and activated the alarm.
Officers canvassed the area, officials said, and tracked down 32-year-old Orlando, Florida resident Stenis Alexander Lowery walking southbound on Main Street holding an umbrella, rock and stick in his hand.
Police said that the person who initially reported the burglary was able to positively identify Lowery as the man who was seen leaving the New Canaan Historical Society, and he was subsequently arrested, as the building was not open for the public when he entered and activated the alarm.
According to police, Lowery refused to speak with officers regarding his involvement in any instance. He was subsequently arrested and charged with third-degree burglary. Following arraignment, Lowery was taken into custody and held in lieu of $5,000 bond. Lowery is due back in New Canaan Justice Court on Monday to answer the charge.
